The last issue of “Kärntner” this year In addition to reports on the activities of the local community service and accounts of our fundraising campaigns, it brings texts about the Carinthian timber industry and the Carinthian forest. Forests and wood have traditionally been important factors in our country's economy, on the jobs, but also in relation to nature- and climate protection.
Building with wood has a particularly beautiful tradition in Carinthia. On this topic we present an interview with the renowned Carinthian architect Herwig Ronacher. And our board member Christoph Steinacher, the grandson of the hero of the Carinthian defensive battle, describes the opportunities and problems of the local timber industry.
Finally, we provide an obituary for our friend and long-time employee Reinhold Gasper. As a local politician in Klagenfurt, Gasper made outstanding contributions as a regional historian and as an environmentalist. He died these days 85. age. We bring his last cultural-historical contributions, which he sent to us shortly before his death.
Finally, we would like to wish all friends and supporters of the Carinthian Homeland Service a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
